Self Portrait: In Abstraction

OK. Too weird? This is how it happened...

I was standing at the top of the staircase in Waterstones book shop. The stairs go back and forth, Escher-like. So, I thought it would be worth a shot. I took a regular shot with my Canon T90.

Later, after getting the scan back, I saw that the shot hadn't turned out, and I almost binned it. But something made me open it up in Elements. I decided to darken it, and as I did so...suddenly my face appeared on the left. Quite a surprise! Susan and Rhona agree that it is definitely my face. So, setting aside any supernatural causes (!) how could that happen, technically? Seriously.

It's not a double exposure, as a) I would have to set that up on the T90, and I don't know how to do that, and b) I never photographed myself with this film.

It took me a while but, it's you all right. I think Dave is probably on the right track and that either the shutter has stuck open or remained open due to the camera selected it a very long exposure time for some reason and you have ended up with one (or more) very long exposure while moving with a reflection or similar of yourself included at some point: maybe you turned the camera towards yourself at some point to what was going on.

And, I forgot to add that, I like it too. :)

Supernatural Rob - you appear to be able to influence film with just your MIND :D

Cool effect - took me a little bit of staring and then BAM there you were

Spooky...

Or was he never in it at all and we are now all suffering mass hypnosis will see Rob, grand master of all, in everything we see and must bow down unto his...

Phew, don't know what came over me all of a sudden!

Malt? :D

I think the stuck shutter explanation is probably correct, but I do prefer the alternatives...Grand Master Illusionist and Hypnotist...must get the business cards made...
