Snow Geese or The View Out My Window

The second winter storm of the season brought with it persistent cold temps. This seemed to give the snow geese an urge to migrate in great numbers. A bunch settled on the lake near my house last night. They made quite a ruckus when they left this morning. Here's the view out my window.

Several flocks flew pretty close to my deck. I had a little difficulty getting a good shot but here's one. Adult snow geese are mostly white with black wing tips. Those that have more brown on them are probably young ones.

Absolutely wonderful, Ralph. I can imagine the din they make. This time of year we get squadrons of Canada Geese flying northbound over our house. Honkety-honk-honk-honk like clockwork avery morning around 6:30. I'd say its anywhere from 20 to 50 birds at a time, no more than 40-60 feet above us. They are loud enough. (And I love it.) Wich I could hear what you heard.

Great shots. The first is almost like 3 different imagas one atop the other. Love 'em!

Wonderful Ralph especially with the muted palette. If you'd a mind to, you could crop out the foreground and end up with an almost abstract image.

I'll give that a try. Right now trying to snatch an iPhone movie.

Very Nice Ralph.
I sometimes go to a Wildfowl & Wetlands Reserve in Scotland to see the thousands of Geese that over winter there and the sound of them all taking to the air at the same time is something else, totally amazing...

Thanks. The movie didn't work out as the entire time I watched the geese didn't fly. This morning, as the sun broke the horizon the whole bunch got up before I could get outside. But their flying overhead was like a roar of honking geese and flapping wings.

WOW!

You live in a wonderful place Ralph, and thanks for sharing it with us southerners :)

I just don't want to talk to you right now Ralph! I will probably spend the rest of the day avoiding the windows in my house so I don't have to look at the drab views of 60s and 70s brick houses and did I mention the rain, oh the rain! Amazing photos, I like the two with the birds in flight the most.

Better hurry over, the geese will be gone in a day or two and the long winter will begin!
