Solana Beach

SWMBO insisted that we visit Solana Beach yesterday, to tour the trendy arty shops along Cedros - so I reluctantly agreed, and quickly grabbed my camera for the trip

Here are a few shots from the walk-about:

Scooter - X-Pro1 and 23mm Lens
Inspired by @Mauro Tandoi - love the flower in the basket

Electrical Box Marilyn Diptych - X-Pro1 and 23mm Lens
Amazing what you find painted on electrical sub-stations in nice neighborhoods!

Foxy Chick - X-Pro1 and 23mm Lens
Spotted sunning herself in a rather trendy store - looked like a color testcard scene to me!

Budget Pompidou - X-Pro1 and 23mm Lens
Well, they don't have the resources of a city like Paris, but they're trying! ;)

First Comment: Great set, Chris.

Second comment: Up here in the Long Beach area--2nd Street, in Belmont Shore to be exact--they've painted the electrical boxes. I've often thought to snap a fotie or two but just haven't had boots on the ground at the right moment. However, I imagine in my mind's eye that any picture I would have taken of such a painted electrical box would have been a common variety of straightforward snapshot more documentary than artistic. You're picture here of the Marylin Dyptich suggests how very mundane my own images of such boxes would likely have been had I taken any.

Third Comment: Your shot of the scooter "inspired by @Mauro Tandoi" inspires me to suggest a topic for the group: "Inspired by."
  • A shot I saw taken backstage at the Follies Bergere by Brassai in the 1930s inspired me a few years ago to take my camera backstage during our annual Nutcracker performances. I shot a ton of images in low backstage and rehearsal light over the next few years and some turned out pretty good I think. (Although I hasten to add that I do not intend to compare myself here with a master such as Brassai.)
  • Also, I saw a set by @Rob MacKillop earlier today in which he was inspired by @Davie Hudson's "straight out of the camera" images.
  • I've seen many comments over the years on RPF about high quality imagery from this RPFr or that. Perhaps a number of us have been inspired by such images and simply haven't mentioned it.
  • So I'm thinking,...post in image you took that was inspired by someone else's work. Tell who it was and (if it was a particular image) maybe show or point to that image by way of allowing RPFrs to see the inspirational work
To anyone reading this: What's your thoughts on an "Inspired By" thread?

@Hamish Gill: Please weigh in. Perhaps I'm posting this suggestion in the wrong place. Or perhaps there is a reason we shouldn't or cannot do it. If so you have my apologies H!

Fabulous set there Chris. Love the scooter and the pipes. But it is sad to see that Basil Brush has gone the way of so many celebrities (looks stoned to me)!
Thanks Pete - I got some comments from passers by as I shot the pipes - they clearly thought I was mad (probably correct) :D

Basil Brush - I'm sure he'd be banned these days as being non-PC, or is he still on British TV?

I remember taking a shot with my phone of an old factory electrical box stuff, people similarly thought I was mental :)
