I agree the framing is well done and the sense of solitude is added to by the way that the other people in the shop are in their own frame on the left.

Jim I am glad you did double back.
Only the other day I spied an amazing shot. This huge muscled bodyguard in a NEXT shop door way, within a shopping mail. He was alone, in black,rolled up sleeves, tattooed. legs apart, arms folded , trying to look tough. No one in sight. I hesitated, about to ask for a shot. I almost did, then didn't. Still see it in my mind and wish I had tried at least.

Yes, I know the feeling you described quite well. Lucky for me in this case, my subject was way less intimidating than the one you encountered, making it easier to commit.
