Something for when you wake up tomorrow morning

I’m continuing my study of shop windows and reflections. This is a café called—fittingly—‘Caffeine’, and this is the formula it adopted for its window display.

I like to imagine that he’s in love, with bright, glowing lights in his thoughts, while she’s just thinking ‘caffeine’. Can't you see it?

In the next shot: A gentleman was cleaning the window of the same shop. I wanted to take a photo through the drops of glass cleaner running down it, but I arrived five seconds too late. He realised what I was after (he’s a keen photographer himself, from what he told me after) and, without me even asking, sprayed the glass again just for me, and smiled. Brilliant!

These are both great! I love the depth due to the reflection and the lamp inside contrasting the decal on the window.

How do you like your new camera as compared to the LX100?

This is a difficult question that would require a fairly detailed answer. I’ll try to be as concise as possible.

The LX100 was very enjoyable to use; I never felt intimidated by it and used it with complete freedom to experiment. However, that often came at the cost of many failed shots. The OM-1 still intimidates me — if only because of its size, which does not go unnoticed — but its performance is exceptional. For example, I can take perfectly sharp, correctly exposed, blur-free photos while I’m actually pedalling my bike through the busy streets of my city. And the lens I use is always a Leica lens, as with the LX100, but of significantly higher quality in terms of colour, sharpness, and overall rendering.

I like my Panasonic mFT cameras and you're right the OM-1 is a daunting beast. I have it setup to shoot birds and I never use it for anything else. It's funny, I got rid of my LX100 because I thought I'd be happier with the GX85 which is about the same size but which supports interchangeable lenses. In truth, I typically land on a lens for a camera and then never change it - well, never is too strong but once I find a body/lens pairing I like I'll often just take out a camera/lens pair that suits what I'm going for. Truth is that I miss the LX100. Mine had the brown "fake" leather look.

And more 'Caffeine' from yesterday photo-walk. I find it interesting how the man appears somewhat ambiguously in size; he looks almost like a giant outside the bar, reflected in the glass.
