Spider under the cabin

Under the Cabin by mikemilton, on Flickr

I was inspired to dig this shot up by a post from Paul Lange. Anyway, 'hope you enjoy it.

Background: Our home is built on pilings in a lake. So, at sunset, the light streams under the building. Because the breeze comes across the lake, this is a great place for a web to snare things and this spider is taking full advantage!

Cheers, m

Nice job Mike. Some wouldn't have thought about looking under a cabin for an interesting shot. I like the color too. I might have cropped a little off top and bottom but it might not improve the image any.

I like it without a crop - good balance at that ratio and you wouldn't want to lose any of the web from the sides.

Thanks for the comments. I usually avoid the 'bulls-eye' composition and had though of putting the spider in the lower right 'thirds' cross point pointint into the scene. In the end it seemed less attractive than the symmetric version here

It looks remarkably like a side-on shot of a galaxy, with the spider as the cluster of stars at its centre.

Nature is as one, on the small- or extremely large- scale.

(The above just needs a bit of Brian Cox's "amaaaazing" delivery to get the sense of wonderment across.)

Mike - I think the radial arms of the web reaching out towards the corners really makes this composition - very nice capture, love the lighting as well.

Hate spiders though! :(
