Critique Welcomed Still Life Vase and Thorns

Oh look, we have a still life section here on RPF. I've only just noticed and I suppose it would have been helpful to put the other still life images here .

Still putting together ideas but liked this in it's 3 variations. I think I like the straight BW the least out of the 3 and the colour the most, I love the blue of the vase and the way it contrasts with the muted yellow and the shadows. With a bit of luck all these will lead up to something eventually. I have a few ideas and need to explore them a bit to find out what will work and what won't etc.

Thanks Lesley, The BW and the tinted monochrome remind me a little of some wet plate images that I have seen. I do really like the colours I get with the long exposures though and I can see this being the way forward. I have a whole bunch of BW film so I suppose I should use it...............

Wow Paul love it and the idea of the thorn branch growing into the vase rather than what would be expected. Coloured version is sublime in the best sense of the word.

In terms of straight aesthetics, the blue vase etc really is very nice. But the straight mono version has a certain cleanness to it that bud (?) and the thorns become very much more the subject of the photo - somehow they seem more significant.

I agree with Pete - I think the mono has more contrast and that helps enhance the thornage

Very tasty

Yeah, just down the road from Bondage. The people in Thornage can be a bit prickly at times and it can be hard to find your way out of Bandage once your in.

The bud like thing is a small black pod though I wasn't aware that roses had them. Maybe it is a bud that has died and dried up?

Got so carried away with a joke forgot to say thank you for the positive comments. I have some more solid ideas now and I am just in the process of acquiring stuff which will probably be swiftly deemed junk by Kerri followed by an edict to keep all junk in the shed.
