The Eagle...

The USCGC Eagle is a 295-foot barque used as a training cutter for future officers of the United States Coast Guard. She is the only active commissioned steel hulled sailing vessel in service. She has been here in the Navy Yard for a few days so I went and visited this morning as she was getting underway.

Her Mast Head is of course...an eagle...

A closeup...

The Old North Church is in the background...

From under the pier...

She is underway...

ThaNks Pete...it was one of those partly cloudy days that was mostly partly.

Thanks Paul...I only see one...but I thought it was a rain drop. I'll check it out in the morning.

Thanks Brian...I couldn't resist that eye.

Fabulous dramatic lighting Glenn - that eagle looks stunning

Thanks Chris...I had enough time to wait for the sun to shine for a few moments. One more plus for retirement.

Thank you Aldous.

#2 is my favorite. #1 was almost my favorite, but the bridge and building in the background are a little distracting to me. love how the gold eagle pops against the dark sky. don't think i'd want to sail around in that sort of weather.
