Spot on depth of field Chris!
The fall off of focus looks almost artificially strong doesn't it ...
Quite th happy sun!!
I imaging the sun to be a bit more angry than that
Thanks chaps - this particular sun sits on the wall over my BBQ, so may that's why he's happy Hamish!
DOF is all in lens/camera - the fall-off is very noticeable at this angle of view, but realistically you've only got 0.15 inch of 'in focus' working at this subject distance and f1.4 on a full frame camera.
For the colour, I just PP'd the RAW file with a Daylight WB instead of As Shot, and this warmed it up nicely - tweaked exposure and shadows as normal to get the final look.
I find the As Shot WB from the 5D2 tends to 'correct' the nice warm sunshine we get in CA, and make everything cooler - so unless I like that cooler effect, I usually switch to the preset 'Daylight WB' setting to get that warmth back into an image.
Amazing how it effects the viewer - I always play around with WB at the PP stage just to see what works and what doesn't.
