The Jubilee Bridge Project

Dan Cattermole

Dan Down - The Steampunk Womble
Sorry I haven't been around for a while, work has been chaos and the surveying of this job has consumed every bit of social life out of me.
My boss at worked asked me (as he knew I have a passion for photog) if I wanted to take some shots of this project to be put on the websites header...... Of course, I happily obliged. :)
It was an experience this job was I tell ya, not just to photograph, but to be involved with the organisation, preparation and supervision of the job.

We had a burst pressurised rising sewer mains directly under the Jubilee Bridge just outside of Fladbury (KK, I'm sure you know this location)
There has been tankers keeping the sewer pump stations around the area down for the last 2 weeks whilst we have been trying to figure out how the funky chicken we were going to get to this pipe smack shabang under the bridge!
Well, here it is... Ladies and gentlemen..... The revolutionary Moog 120!

Just fascinating watching this spectacular invention unfold.
Access onto the platform was certainly not for the faint hearted as you had to access through the structure of the moog to get under the bridge.

Due to this day and age with Heath and safety that bombards us on a hourly basis, we had to organise a river rescue service in case of the obvious.

And most importantly, the engineers carrying out the repairs, using my new OM 50 f/1.4 @ f/2.

So there we have folks, this is my job in better detail.
All in all, the job was an utter success and such a great acheivement as this is something beyond the mundane.
The repair was simplistic, the preparation was exciting, and the job itself was a rare oppotunity for myself to be involved with. Loved every part of it.
Thank you for taking the time to have a look :)

Stunning - love that bit of specialist kit, and a super set of shots of the action and people

Surprised health and safety let you anywhere near water - don't they know you might get wet! :D :D :D

Thanks folks,
All I used was my nifty fifty and fisheye. Didn't want too many lenses near water if you know what I mean. Lol.
Believe it or not, the river rescue crew were more than double the cost of the Moog..... Couldn't believe it!!
The whole operation come to a staggering cost! You could by 5 Nikon D4 bodies and a lens to sum it up in comparison! Mental.

Great stuff, Dan. Fantastic shots and overall project. My fav is the third last, the one with the Daniel van and double-yellow lines - really good shot.

Well done DD great shots, wish I'd known it had been going on I would have popped by on the bike....

Ha, we did arrive and semi started at 3 30a.m, should of gave you a tinkle then! ;)
On your bike? I take it you mean motorbike? :D

Hey Careful Mr D the 'Steel Oss' has pedals I'll have you know, and as for 3:30 am I was probably having my own tinkle :p:o

Fair play, good to hear your on the bike! :D
Hope 'tis not reeking havoc on ya lungs our kid? :D

Nice use of the fisheye there Dan, really makes good use of the distortion as a strength of that type of lens.

I'm going to sound rather sad now but as I work in pipe repair I can't help feeling disappointed at the fact that after all that effort the engineers install a very cheap and cheerful pipe repair clamp that will be temporary at best, especially with all that corrosion on the pipe.

Sad I know, I need to get out more ;).

Very well observed Paul.
I suppose you notice things more in pictures if you come face to face with the topic in question daily.

The pipe is a 5 inch cast and although it look corroded, it's solid.
Its been wrapped in lagging to protect it from weathering.

This operation was to repair (unknown at the time) a simple 15mm copper air line pipe which had burst.

They connected a ferrel and a line up to the existing one.

And relagged/insulated the pipe for protection

I didn't post these as they weren't anything interesting in particular as far as composition is concerned.
However, just for those pipe pros out there :):)

Hope that's justified a good job more Paul. :)

Ha, I had to leave site and drive 40 mile for that bloody thing! Lol

I am finally going to the factory for the rest of my training in pipe repair using composites soon. I can tell you all about it if you have a spare week and not doing anything else more interesting like plucking your nose hairs. I have to say I am still disappointed with the kink in the plastic air hose, very shabby! :D
