Douglas thanks and the same here. I came to this conclusion as which is not far removed from your shades. Having spent the past six months under cloud as most of us has in the uk this year, this day was so stunningly bright and blue people stood in awe as they reach the end of the quay. No more than that and something more prone to happen first thing in the morning than in the bustle of the day.

I do though often think about the natural coastline, cliffs and beaches and how it is so unchanged over many hundreds of years as our forefathers & not to forget mothers saw it. Possible with a very different attitude though.

if you can rework the digital file so the B&W conversion has a red filter on it, I think it'd look even better. It'd darken the sky right up!
This feels like a 1950's movie image to me, I like the framing and the feeling of a warm brightly lit day.
I think B&W is worth experimenting with in terms of filter balance etc to get more contrast and more depth.

Yes David thanks and the exact same thoughts here when processing. I did the red filter or as in these raw Sigma files you easily extract the red layer. It flattened the file and it became a bit muddy, using the other two options of blue and green I ended with a compromise after much debate . I dont spend as much time now processing as I have in the past although I always shoot raw, I do not find it as enjoyable at all as I once did so am more willing to compromise with at least photography.
I aught perhaps have tried the Silver Nik in Cs6 who knows.

Did you use a polariser?

No David. Truth being I am permanently on crutches and no longer carry a bag with my polarize rs Gard lee filters etc etc , simple three cameras, dp1 dp 2 dp3 All the big FF cameras and long fat white lenses are redundant. I am happy with the situation and am aware of the compromises I make over what happened in the past. I rarely now take a tripod which used to be a must, but cannot be done and possible the most missed photographic tool of everything to attach a camera to.

I fully understand your situation, as you'll see from another thread, I recently ditched my 5D/grip/L-lenses because they were just too cumbersome and were a barrier to photography, not an aid!
Using the little GX7 has been fab, but I still keep a wee sling bag with a few filters (which are now tiny) for such occasions

The very same idea here. I got the original OMD EM5 when it came out for that reason. The small panny Leica lenses the lovely Olympus 45mm f1.8 and the 75mm f1.8 I had such great fun and enjoyment with and still do from time to time. It is not just the weight issue now the mobility is seriously compromised and on occasions the 28mm Sigma Dp1 is enough around the neck on it's own and I can come home with one or two ok images to quench the thirst. I love it Julian. Looks like a painting, but I can't say who by. Very warm in Edinburgh today too. Went cycling with Rhona, but forgot to take a camera. Alas.

Must be nice to have Rhona back, sometimes I find even a camera gets in the way on such occasions and the company is enough. I just love the way they are building their own lives at this age, my youngest is back for a short period before a worldly adventure. Her third year she worked in Industry and will do her finals from September. Times flown and they are learning to fly, I just wish I was as together as both of my children are , especially at that age.
