The Olympus XA

I've posted a number of shots taken with my XA. I love that wee camera. It's light and comfortable in hand or pocket, the lens is fast and sharp, and it's whisper quiet, so great for taking pictures when you want to remain inauspicuous.

I've written a little article about the XA for the Film Photography Project. Click on the URL below if you'd like to read it.

Thank you very much, Hamish. (If I hadn't already committed myself to articles for FPP I'd happily do it for RPF. You run a great site!)

Nice write up. Its somewhat disappointing though that Olympus seemed to make the seminal camera first and then then progressively made the range worse as time went on. I suppose the market demanded cameras that were easier to use and cheaper even if it meant a loss of some possibilities.

Thanks for the comments Paul. My guess is that the range was downgraded due to cost-down measures because of the complexity/expense of producing the XA lens. I'd further guess that this was, partially at least, to stay competitive against other 35mm P&S cameras coming on the market, such as the Pentax PC35AF. (Of which I have owned two: The first I loved and dropped and broke; I was heartbroken. The second I still own but do not love because it has intermittent focus problems. (It is diabolocally mischievous.)

I loved my little XA, took it everywhere with me. Smashing lens, virtually silent and really versatile. I dropped it in the sea off Thailand. Gutted doesn't begin to cover it.

I love this camera too. The colours in the photos always come out real nice. Below are some I've taken using the XA. I used a Kodak Elite Chrome film for these protectoral photos Nice photos by the way. I love the first one of the warehouses - very nice.

Thanks Brian. That's actually one of my favourite photos. Probably because I am a red :)

Would be real interested to see more of your XA photos

Me too, Robert. Love the Reds! (Scottish football being a two horse race year in and year out, I have to look south of the border for exciting competition.) I'm liking some of the players King Kenny's brought in. (Sorry to see Meirelies leave for Chelsea, though. Liked him a lot. Still, with Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson, Stevie G, D. Kuyt, et al,...good midfield!)

There are a bunch of XA photos on my blog: myglass-i.blogspot.com

Thanks again.

Yeah I agree. We're a lot stronger than last season. I've got my fingers crossed for 4th.

I'll check your blog out.

You've inspired me to get my XA out again. Going to take it out on the weekend

Hamish - thank you. I am happy with it. What makes it even better for me is that he's eating a BLT sandwich!

Brian - I've 'dusted' it off and its loaded! Ready for the weekend! I'll posted the results once developed.
(Keep faith - Don't let tonight's result get you down. We WILL finish 4th ;) YNWA)
