Had to make a quick trip up to Orange County today (for those of you unfamiliar, it's essentially the buffer zone or DMZ between San Diego and Los Angeles - lots of suburban sprawl but a few beautiful towns and interesting things to see and do). The blimp hangers that Chris shot a few weeks ago are here, and a five minute drive from where I shot this photo.

This is the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, designed by Cesar Pelli in 2006. I first saw it a few years ago but only tonight had the opportunity to take a few shots of it at twilight.

As per usual these days, I was harassed by security guards and asked to leave, so I only got a couple of shots. Here's one of them.

Worth getting harassed for though Darren. The curved glass gives a nice soft feel to the shot and the colouring is super.

What are the rules about shooting buildings like this? IN the UK (and most of the EU) it would be fine as long as you were on public land.

Thank you, Pete. Yes, the laws are pretty much the same here. I was perfectly within my rights to take a picture of it because I was on publicly accessible land. One security guard told me that I needed a permit because the building was copyrighted, but that is not the correct interpretation of that law. There is a photographer's exception built into the law regarding copyrights that essentially says that as long as the building can be viewed from a publicly accessed space, you can shoot away.

Of course, that doesn't mean the security guards will leave you alone, and it's usually best to just avoid a confrontation.

it's a thing of beauty, i 'think' i like the second shot better

Which is better??

....

There's only one way to find out.... FIGHT!!!

(With apologies to non-viewers of UK TV)

I like #2 - you can read the whole sign which explains what the structure is, and you get move of those lovely curves.

The only thing I'd do would be a little darkening to #2 as I like that feature of #1

Fabulous shots Darren - didn't even know this place existed!

Ha! That's funny, Hamish. Thanks for the poll. It looks like #1 is off to a strong start, although I would probably agree with Chris on this one. I just corrected the photo a bit to the same exposure as the first one so maybe that'll put it out in front.
