Torn!

Actually, No know I shouldn't be......
I've recieved the claim for my Olympus E600 which had a tragic malfuntional accident, and if I contributed an extra 150 squid towords camera (in mind and that's without selling my lenses and accesoweeees) I could get something special, given my current strict family finacial circumstances.

Guys and Gals...... I've felt... a camera that felt real! comfortable and top rack indeed, certainly more sustainable that my Oly, more compatable than my Oly (how the FUJCK am I saying this!!!!!) more exciting than my Oly!!! AAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen...... Honest opinions.... Yes or No
Shall I get the D7000 with the 18-105mm lens????????????
Or, wait until I build up the finaces for the Olympus E-5??????????? (without selling lenses and accesoweeeeeeeeeeesssss)

Don't buy a god damn out of date no longer supported tiny format "pro" spec slr you numpty!!!!

Buy the Nikon if you are in a hurry ... If not let's have a think through your options!

dslrs first -
nikon (dx format eg d7000 with 1.5ish x crop)
pros:
I will like you more ;)
picture quality especially in lower light is good.
lots of lenses to choose from

cons:
you can't mount your 50mm zuiko and get infinity focus

canon (apsc format eg 700d etc 1.6ish x crop)
pros:
I will understand your treachery ;)
you will be able to mount you zuiko and many other lenses inc m42 and get infinity focus

cons:
Hold a canon and make your own mind up

Both systems are alive and well (unlike 4/3rds). Loads of lenses, both will make you wonder what you were messing around with a that oly before. 1.5x crop allows you access to wider angle lenses for less cash. You will also find that even the kit lens at its widest offers a more shallow dof for those wide angle intimate portraits you like!

BUT...

Have you considered going full frame?
you could get a canon eos 5d for about £400, maybe less!
more access to wide angles for less cash!
Your zuikos would fit and operate at their intended fov ...

The disadvantage would be low light performance ... Probably be about the same as your oly ... But it would be a real mans camera ;)
It also starts you on a more interesting path...

OR...

a Sony nex...
good for your advantues being so small and light! Cheap too... Will mount pretty much any lens you care to think of ...

The world is your lobster matey! ;)

well if it helps much i love my Nikon, absolutely love it.........hahah (even though it was a impulse buy (i am good at them )

If buying new on WEX its £789 then you claim £100 cash back which is defo tempting.........!

I have no issues with the 18-105 lens at all.......does job just fine & nice lightweight set up.

I was a bit worried about opening this thread I can tell you! After seeing photos of your missus in labor you then start a thread called Torn. I thought you had just gone too far.....;)

The D7000 is a good camera, I like mine very much. If you get one I don't think you'll be disappointed. However, if you can hold on to the cash and add a bit extra to it over time it will give you more to spend and more time to try cameras out in shops to see how you feel about them.

Thanks Guys,

I went to LCE earlier this week and spoke to a chap called James, Nice chap who always knows me for going in there very often asking for any OM lenses and having a rumage through the 'junk box', Hamish know him well.

I looked over at the D7000 that they have on dislay I thought, all the times I've been in there an I've never even considered picking that up before. From the moment I picked it up I visualised it being in my possesion, Nice bit of kit that certainly is, and they have the 35 f/1.8 there too which was very tempting.

I have size 7 feet and size 8 hands anyway, so pretty small, but it certainly makes my gadgets look bigger if you know what I mean, and this thing fit and felt great.

And the sound........... ooooaaaahhhhh!!! yes! it doesn't sound like someone has crushed a mouse with a hammer inside of it. Nice clean clicking/clunking noise. like a DSLR should sound and not like a dying mouse like my Oly. lol

Overall, I'm gonna have to be realisitic and stop being so sentimentally attached to my discontinued Oly.
Sell my lenses (exepted my 50mm 1.4) because I LOVE that thing. but alternatively, I've had an idea.

What do you think to this guys? changing the OM mount to F mount to gain back that 0.5mm loss of distance to the sensor. That way infinity focus could be acheived. :) just an idea.....

just tried to translate your last post DD and failed.....hahaha

does that mean you like it and bought it or what ???

D7000 is similar size to D7100 which is much smaller than my old 7D, i have BIG hands and was worried it wouldn't feel right, but it does feel really well. I also love the shutter sound (sad or what) compared to 7D its much more nicer sounding (sounds wont make better pics though)

Juts been told about this DD may be some use to ya

We have had a massive delivery of 2nd hand Nikon stock! Including D4's,D800,D7000,D300s,D3100,D90 and more...they are mostly Mint - condition and some have stupidly low shutter counts!! They are being tested now but the website hasn't been updated yet!
