Under The Stairs

The Hexar has exposed this image beautifully, Rob. (But I know next to nothing about Hexars; maybe you selected the exposure, Rob? If so, you have exposed this image beautifully!) I must say though that I find the blackness on the right detracts from an otherwise interesting image.

I did think of cropping out the RH edge, and might do so. Trying not to do much pp to film shots, but I think you are right here, Brian. With the Hexar, I just put it on P mode, then select an aperture, as if in Aperture mode. The Hex gets as close to your choice of aperture, but will change it if the lighting dictates otherwise. It's MUCH clevererer than me!

Did it decide on what to shoot also? (Now that, in combination with its exposure selection skills, might make it cleverer.)

Was it the end of the film, by the way? Is that what the black is?

Or perhaps a close up wall in darkness that you couldn't avoid?

Something quite beautiful about this image. I think it maybe the edges enveloping the centre with the correct contrast. A wonderful image Rob.

Many thanks, Julian. The Hexar must be one of the best fixed-lens 35mm film cameras.
I have looked on ebay and seen several. They all seem to reside in Japan but keep an eye out here in the charity shops, one never knows. I am tempted to get an ebay one but will wait a while yet.

Great composition! I love the simplicity and the rough angles of the stairs.

I had a problem buying my first Hexar from Japan, @Julian de'Courcy . The seller sent the wrong camera. He insisted I send it back before he sent the right one. I returned it saying I didn't want the original one, which he had sent to someone else who hadn't yet returned it. So I had to initiate a complaint through Ebay. They very quickly found in favour of me, and paid me instantly. It was up to them to get the money from the seller, but I was covered. The whole experience left me feeling a bit ill.

But then I saw another in excellent condition, and at a reasonable price - it wasn't cheap, maybe £250 or so. It arrived quickly and safely, and I've been very happy with it ever since.

I think you might have to wait a while to find one locally...

Yes my experience with Ebay when registered or rather paypal was not good and dont have a paypal account and dont wish to again. So that is a problem. I buy through ebay as a guest but wonder if that's possible with larger payments. I have seen them in this country , yes £250 seems the going rate , but as long as it works and has good seals to me for a very good camera it seems reasonable. I'll keep an eye out locally I think.

Fabulous shot, Rob and I love the balance of tones and those lines from the hand a rail and pipe are just perfect. I think I'd be tempted to crop the right hand in the 'print' though as it doesn't add to the shot and does look rather like the end of the film.

Anybody knows a good photoshop somewhere between Crawley and Hastings - Brighton and down that way. No I am not looking for a Hexar, but a used AF 24mm/2,8 or so for my Pentax or better yet a 20mm. Just thought I'd ask.
