Thanks Brian - you think those are gulls or Pelicans?

They look awfy wee in the fotie, Chris. But yeah,...now that you mention it, pelicans likely. (Cannae see their big daft beaks so that's why I branded them--rashly it now seems--as gulls.)

Pelicans always remind me of mini Pterodactyls - so cool the way they fly over the coast

Never thought of that Chris but you're right!

Once a year or so, for a couple of weeks, a small flock of white pelicans dock in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. They are magnificent,...like great white battleships anchored in the tidal basin. Next time I sees them I'm taking my 7d and big lens.

Beautiful shot, and the birds really lift it - you've trained them well.

I have an auntie who lives in San Diego. In fact, my late father lived there when he was young. Never been myself, but your photies are tempting me over!

Come on over, the weather's lovely Rob! :)

Hamish/Rob - I have radio controlled versions of the Pelicans which I have flown into my shots on command - works a treat ;)

Seriously though - we had an influx of Pelicans last year, and they are still very prevalent this year - always flying up and down the coast looking for a photo-bombing opportunity.

The PP is straight B&W toned in Topaz - the weirdness is all generated by nature, I timed my arrival at this spot as the tide was going out, and the retreating ocean left this lovely looking scene.

Nice shot Chris. And that pair of gulls adds much to the scene for me.
I agree with Brian that those gulls are pretty neat. I'd move them down and to the left some for more impact.

Nice shot Chris.

Yep, more likely pelicans now that I look a little closer. I'd still move em though. :o

Isn't that cheating Ralph?

I don't think it is... It's being clever!
Birds can fly anywhere, there is no reason they wouldn't have been flying in a more compositionally pleasing place ;)

Ooooo, the possibilities! ;)

I was just happy I spelled Pterodactyl correctly - was was it my Mac's spelling Nanny... ;)
