Verascope stereographic images

Hi all,

I have just come across this article, its some WW1 images taken with a Verascope, its a stereo graphic camera like my Gomz sputnik. It basically takes 2 pictures at the same time, but slightly apart eg each lens is an eye and they are eye width apart. When combined together the brain sees it as 3d.

if you click on the 'view the 3d rendering' it will show it as a gif so you get the correct 3D effect - you would usually need to wear viewer so each eye sees a slightly different image.

Here is an example:

Here is how they are usually viewed:

Interesting. Thanks David. You might find this interesting too. The archive of images still exists.

It makes me want to go out and shoot on the sputnik, considering its been fully upgraded and cleaned when I got it (eg new light seals and the addition of matt paint on the internal surfaces rather than shiny bakelite lol I did see those 3D glasses in a documentary about D day on the BBC a few weeks ago where the aircraft would shoot twin cameras which could then be lined up to get a 3D view - useful for seeing the lay of the land.
