January? Where's the snow? We have groups around here that cut holes in the ice to take a dip in mid-winter. They call it the polar bear plunge. They are common throughout the Great Lakes area. Probably because of all those crazy Norwegians that settled in the northern areas.

Well spring starts early here John. No wonder your climate is harsh with the cold winds from the north and the frosty winds from the lakes. I have encountered your winters and especially in Ontario Canada. I just did not like them cold winds.
