Took the car for a new set of tyres this morning, close to the tyre depot was an array of flowers in a public area, so returned a short time later. This end result was hand-held at f/1.4 shot using the (fabulous) Samyang 35mm f/1.4 (manual focus) lens, holding one's breath, you become experienced after a while.

This is straight out of the camera (j-peg), NO editing at all was done, nothing.

Great Shot Pete ......... I must confess I struggle with the manual focus

I do envy you for the lens you have pete, looks like you can have a good play with that.
I must say though on a constructive note in my opinion, the DOF is a little to narrow, although impressive how narrow it is, I think for this take it seems a little too harsh, and it's shouting out a for a bit more detail.

Thanks Dan for your views.

That floral image I deliberately shot like that to give a very shallow focus point, from memory that was shot at f/1.4 etc. I never intended to have lots of that flower in focus. I've been finding my own style of photography of late, and personally enjoy my end result.

I personally SO ENJOY shooting these images with my kind of slant to it, 'abstract and art'y' style/effect, it's about art!

Certainly is Peter, And very artistic it is.
Everybody has there own niche in the name of art/photography, and it's brilliant that many can establish, enjoy and appreciate their own technique and style.
Admittedly, it took me ages to find mine..... I couldn't really put my finger on what really was 'me' and what I felt comfortable with as my own art. However I can now. Fair play to you pete.

I've had a look into getting myself a f/1.4 zuiko for my Oly, but its a 50mm. But, I guess not too bad for the sum of 69 sheets. :)
I'm tempted! :p

If you got what you wanted - great - If you did not get what you wanted , you would not have posted it .
I kind of quit using my 50 1.4 because of the DOF .
I know 90 % of people want the nice bokeh - I prefer the DOF .
I really like the 17-55 for this reason . Even at 2.8 the DOF is bad but the IS puts me close enough to the 50 1.4 in low light , I can accept it .
I generally shot at F 5.6 or 8 . I probably have as many shots at F 11 as I do at F 2.8 .
But I also probably have as many at F 22 / F 32 as at F 1.4 . [ I shoot a lot in the high desert of Mexico - really bright and lots of glare - ND's and CPL's are old friends .
My avatar is an example - shot at f 8 in early morning sun . I could have gone just for the staymend of flower [ My 180 macro would have done that ] but would not have been what I wanted .
I have all my primes in bag #2 and it has gotten to the point where I seldom take it anymore .
