Walking into light

My eyes were drawn toward the light side of the picture, so I missed the details such as the perspective of the surrounding objects.

Now that you have pointed it out, the warped lamp post in the original does start to bother me ;). I am having a hard time to see the difference that rotation makes, but the vertical treatment works wonderfully. The straightened lamp post does give the scene a more natural look.

Sometimes you need to combine a bit of rotation with vertical correction to get it to look right, or at least correct some of the issues that using vertical correction can introduce. Have a play with the sliders and see what happens if you just use vertical correction to get the lamp post straight. You will find that the windows on te hall go a funny shape ... Its just one of those things where a bit of tinkering is required beyond what seems logical...
It's all down to the direction the camera was pointing and how square to the subject you were ... And to what you were square to ...
Not to mention the fact that a 35mm lns introduces its own set of distortions ...

This is quite tricky isn't it. I actually like the 'lean' on the building and lamp post and find it draws me nicely towards the figure and the direction he is walking. When I first saw the image it reminded me of some of the night scene in Carol Reed's, 'The Third Man'.

I am quite happy for everyone to take what's there and turn it into various versions. It would be a good way for me to learn the various styles :)
