Walls

Walls is one of a number of spin-off projects from The Beauty of Rubbish project. As I travel about I experience different cultures and ways of life. However, regardless of where I go there are some things that remain constant albeit with a bit of a local twist. Walls might seem like a bit of an odd subject but I think they can say a lot about the differences and similarities of cultures.

I like these a lot Paul (I guess you knew I would!). I like both the overall structural forms and the details (and especially the way these interact); The colours above and below the steps, the window mirrored by the blanked off panel, the division of the the steps and then the bag and can. Is the rubbish remnants of the former household of the demolished house or just casual discarded junk? Why does the pipe go into the container (great colours)? And who sits in that chair - an elderly arab gentleman one supposes. Super stuff.

These are really good, Paul. I mean REALLY good. Love the way the handrail intersects the window in the first. There is just loads to look at. I love the touches of green in the first two. The old rusty light saber in the third ;-) and what is that black thing at the foot of the fourth? Brilliant observational photography.

Cheers, good to know that I am not cracking up. I have been working on these on and off for a bit now and begun to wonder if they actually worked or not. I am starting to deviate from the aesthetic of the Rubbish photos, you can probably see that the last image has a definite film simulation and I selectively dropped the clarity (setting in Lightroom) on the chair only while raising it slightly in the rest of the image.

Paul I love these for a number of reasons. One...your ability to capture something that many...well most...people never even see. Two...your ability to capture something that is so normal...and make it interesting. Third...I'm learning from you to try things I see. Thanks!

Yes it is, one of the older types that are mounted high up on the wall and have the chain.
