Waspy Thing

Or Hoverflies even! :) Nice shots though especially the last one. I do like these insects.

These are Eristalis tenax (first two) and Helophilus affinis (last one) by the look of it. The first is the Honey Bee mimic and it lays its eggs in rotting corpses. This lead to certain myths about swarms of bees emerging from them (eg, the biblical reference to bees emerging from the corpse of a lion, "And out of the strong came forth sweetness" - Apiservices - Beekeeping - Article - Ecology : Out of the strong came forth sweetness).

By the way, they are completely harmless.

They look nice with the yellow flowers.

All three are Hoverflies but haven't got my book handy to check specific species.

Thanks for the insight Pete, I now Know where to go for my insect titles. There was a film once about a guy who had swarms coming from his mouth. Tom Hanks was in it.
Glen you'll just have to type faster. but you do have my sympathies. I cannot type fast either.

It must have been a big mouth as he is a tall chap LOL
