What's The Fuji 18mm F/2 Actually Like?

My experience is telling me the same ... I'm very happy now I have it!
The 35mm 1.4 is bloody stunning though, it makes an absolute mockery of the Nikon 50mm 1.4 afs

I second that. It is a superb lens and absolutely fantastic in low light.

I managed to get one before the cashback deals ended on Monday together with the XE-1 and the 27mm. That too is a cracking little lens.

I am sadly turning into a Fuji fan boy and blame Chris Dodkin.

As I prefer primes, the 18 is a lens I have been looking into as I already have the 35 which I love. But as said here, it's got mixed critique. But frankly the 18 - 55 is not that big so I'll stick with that one as a new XT1 shall take much out of my pocket. Later as I already have the 55 - 200mm, the 60 shall fill my purpose better than the new 56 which is very expensive in my book. I sure would like to see about your experience with the 18 Hamish and congratulations with a great bargain.

I purchased an XPro the 35 and the 18 in 2012 and took them away with me to Hong Kong and the Philippines I loved them, but even though the XPro was an incredibly satisfying camera, it was slow, and eventually I persuaded myself to sell the lot to get the XT1. Some of my favourite shots were made with the 18mm and I have had them printed and one special one on my screen saver. So, every time I went on the computer I was confronted with it. It bugged me. So a couple of weeks ago I re-purchased and XPro and an 18mm. I think they are a great combination.

Well I sold my xe1 together with lenses quite some time ago and have had other brands in between. But I missed my Fuji so now I recently purchased a new xt1 with 18 - 55mm which I think is small enough and jolly good. Many of my landscape pictures from north of Norway were done by that lens and xe1. In addition to that lens, I am now looking at the 35mm/f2 WR which gets very much acclaim and is compared to the 35/1,4 which I had before. Given it's just as good and light, small, weather resistant as well as much cheaper, that's the one to go for by me I guess, but the 27mm is also an option and a perspective which I normally prefer over 35. They say though that the 27 is prone to get inside dust which you can't remove. I really do not know. Them two lenses mentioned here have almost the same price here. I always seem to fall in love again I guess, with.....

The 27 is a very good lens. If you want wider you can stitch a couple of images as a pano.

Mostly I use the 10-24 which is excellent.

Well Milan, so far new xt1, xe2 are in my posession as well as 18-55mm. The 35mm/2 wr has been ordered, so now I wonder if I should go for a 55 - 200mm as my final one or a prime as the 90mm? I also go for an adapter for Nikkor- Fuji so my nikkor 105mm/2,5 ais can come in handy. I used to have a 55-200mm before and it is very good lens, but a bit large. A little confused about the third option I guess. Experience tells me that I hardly use lenses above 200mm, so a 90mm would probably be ok. Or the 105mm/2,5 for that matter.

I like the 55-200 and it is very good at the short end for portraits. Actually I think it is good throughout.
What about the 56?

56mm is interesting Milan, but I feel 18-55 takes care of that one and honestly aperture 4 is ok in most cases depending on distance. I believe 55-200mm shall be the one I end up with. My 85mm/1,8 Canon eos and 105mm/2,5 Nikkor ais are two which are interesting too, on paper. But my experience with manual lenses on olympus for instance, made it hard for me to focus properly. So I'll have to see. Thanks for elaborating on the subject.
