When more is too much, and the result of an interesting but pointless exercise.

I wanted to see what scanning a 35mm frame in four separate 24mp sections and stitching them together would look like. My choice of film type to try wasn’t ideal, either (Kentmere 400). I pushed the magnification a little too far and didn’t leave enough overlap for photoshop to do it’s stuff, so had to position the sections manually. Then when I went save the stitched frame as a jpeg, my computer threw in the towel. Anyhow, the upshot of all this nonsense was to prove that, particularly for faster films like the Kentmere for instance, (and as mentioned elsewhere on the web) there’s not really anything much to be gained beyond a single 24mp scan frame. Just as well - it was a lot of faffing.

Of course, medium format is another story…

1) Section of single 24mp frame (around 4000 ppi)

2) Section of stitched frame (around 8000ppi)

3) The full picture
