Wolfsburg is the Place to be!

As I mentioned to Hamish and Paul, I have been lacking inspiration a bit of late. It's not that I haven't been taking pictures more that I've been a bit, shall we say, bored with the results. Anyway, in an attempt to get going again here is a shot taken in Göttingen a week ago. A few things attracted me to the composition which was shot with the intention of cropping it square (is there any other way!) - like the colours on lid of the bin and the poster on the wall, the contrasts of the rather scruffy walls etc with the sleek, chic poster inviting you to go the Wolfsburg. And that in itself is quite intriguing as the only realm thing there is the monstrous (although quite stylish and striking) VW plant!!

Pete, your shots always seem to provide a glimpse of a gritty kind of street art or juxtaposition of shapes and colors that, to mere mortals, would seem un-photogenic and therefore not photo-worthy. But they are always interesting and this is no exception. I like the colors in the wee bin and how it seems a child to that parental-looking obelisk. (What is that obelisk, Pete? Is it merely a column for posters and ads?) I also like the zig-zag pattern in the sidewalk bricks and how that somehow echoes the doorway to the left as well as the horizontal lines in the facade of the building. Very interesting, Pete!

Thanks Brian. These are purely for adverts (Litfaßsäule) and are quite a common site in many European cities (you'll find some in Paris but not as many as Berlin or Prague - or Göttingen for that matter). There were several bearing this poster but this arrangement attached me the most and I took two other shots before settling on this particular view. The circle in the square and the colours of the bin / poster and main poster / tomato advert drew my eye most I think.

I think Brian has said it all for me. Such an ordinary scene and one which almost everyone would pass without a second glance and yet this has something I can't quite define. The processing is superb - have you been at the glamour glow? I really must remove my blinkers and take another trip to London. A truly wonderful photograph Pete :)
