I remember the sky was flat and grey shot 8/10/09

I like how the rocks are rendered in this B&W Kev. Is that the Toposcope in the middle background at the bottom of the V.

Thanks Brian, I remember taking this and wanting just the rocks and not being worried about the sky being burned out, a sort of high contrast was what I was after. Yes that the Toposcope, you must have been there to know that. Had a Brass plate compass and plan of the key landmarks on thast got stolen and was replaced several years back now.

I spent 36 hours without a break fighting a large fire on the beacon in the late 90's, it is one of my favourite places in the county :)

Brilliant shot Kev, Lovely tones!
I've been up the Malverns SO MUCH!! It truely is a very tranquil place. Probably one of my favourite places too. :)
I remember the outbreak on the Malverns, wasn't it caused by campers who's fire got slightly out of control.... or was that a different time?? :/
About 8 months ago or so, I decided to go to the Toposcope on my own to perform a light mummy stunt stood on top of .... the toposcope... It was dark and about 10pm.
when I parked my car at the bottom, I could literally aim and drop a feather on my foot the air was so still..... but when I got up there, I was absolutely astonished how much atmostpheric pressure there was passing over the hills at the very point you took this picture.... It was (excuse ma french) ****ing POWERFULL!!!
I thought I could never get this shot.... no tripod would ever withstand this mega wind. I was leaning into it........ and failed about 5 times to even just stand on the Toposcope to sample an almost concluded night of failure.
However, It was this slight ruggid terrain at the peak that I could hide my tripod away from this 'Hurricane' (I think it was just around the corner in fact)
But to this day and many to come, I will never forget the sheer difference that 400 meters up a hill can be presented by mother nature.
Here's the picture in question that reminds me of the battle I had in order to achieve the result I hoped ( hope you don't mind )

Thanks for opening up a can of memories Kev. :) :)

I never mind if a thread develops, thats what photography and this forum is all about yea, I'm glad the mummy is here it is a perfect spot for it, the difference in ambient temperature and wind is so marked on that spot many people get caught out and do actually get lost even on such a common place, it is a great place to be, I know there are many bigger and better but not here in the wuzzashire :D

Wuzzashires hill tops babs you knows look!?! (oh no, here we go again!) :D :D
