They're brilliant, like Brian was saying about the chap with the 'hoses'. Compositionally that is one awesome shot!
They're booms that are used in watercourses to contain pollutions or spilages. We used a load of these on the river Stour through Kidderminster when we had a diesel leak.... Guess who was the lucky bugger who volunteered to put on the waders!?!? lol

Thanks Dan...I think this guy didn't volunteer. It's a two man team that id there all day making sure nothing slips by. The boots belong to him by the way. He takes them off...and puts on rubbers.

Well Allen...I'm 6'2"...200 lbs...ex sailor and construction worker...and these guys intimidate me. They look like they would they eat raw meat and drink pints for breakfast. I will NOT be questioning their work ethic.
