Thanks everyone. The formation of ice on salt water really is interesting to watch. It's become rare these days. There was a time when the harbor froze but these days it just begins to form in coves and around docks during these short days.

It's what happens with calmer sea water as it freezes Chris. It's kind of fascinating to watch. The ice is formed by the cold air vs the water temp. Slush forms on the edges and as the they bump together it pushes it up in the flatter ice.

back in the 90s the ocean froze around here, it was only abut 25-50' out from the shore but that was a pretty cool site to see.

We were living in Newport RI...that happened in the Chesapeake Bay.
