ZORKI - 4 + JUPITER 8

I might have accidentally on purpose just bought a Zorki 4K (didn't want a 4 as I valued the skin on my thumbs) that's quite a sharp lens it seems, mine is body only so I need a lens for it, wasn't sure if I should get the Jupiter or the Industar lens. What did you do for metering btw? Sunny 16 rule or a portable light meter?

Those are nice shots btw :) you have managed to capture the 'everyday' things that might not be around for much longer.

I think images like this will be captured for many years to come. The small boats like this make a healthy living and the stocks of fish are very high compared to 20 or thirty years ago. Sunny rule, not that I know it. Film has a lot of lea way. Once or twice I did take a reading off my digital camera. Personally I would get the Jupiter as the Induster is definitely not as well made. My Induster does have a wobble half way up the lens at one of the joints. Works fine but not as pleasant to use.

Thanks for the comment, I will go with the Jupiter lens, unless of course I get a different L/M39 lens but the cheapest option is probably the Jupiter 8.

Wonderful series Julian. As a single image, I like the first the most. There is something about the contrast of the glare from the sea and the shadows on the boat that is quite emotive I think. And the 'story' told by the others works well I think. The last shot is particularly good I think as, with the focus on the hat, you start to create a narrative for the shot, maybe something about the uncertainties of life as a fisherman. I like that. What was your thought process when you shot it? Can you recall?

Pete, the thought process was as I re-call something along the lines of. 'I wonder if it is even in focus along with I hope I have the correct exposure, fingers crossed. First time of using the Zorki.

Perhaps a travelog book of fishermen in the UK ... your love of this will always come across in your fishermen photos.

the last two really struck a cord with me. love the angle on both and the dof on the last one. great tones and comps. throughout the series. reminds me of some of the scenes i saw in maine in the fishing piers on vacation as a kid.

I see this as a whole series where none of them should go a miss, take one away and there is a missing link in a wonderful story in pictures. To me it is insignificant which tool was used, albeit the information regarding the tool being used, makes it more admirable. Wonderfully done Julian.

Thank you Ivar. I did see the Zorki this morning and wondered if I would put the lens back on and a film in it. It resides above the kitchen sink. ruth is I find the rangfinder type camera's difficult to use. Maybe I;ll give it another go sometime soon.

I never saw these before, Julian. Don't know how I missed 'em. Like Rob, I think I prefer #4 best; something to do with the fisherman's hands and that rope. Very good the whole set!
