I'm having a hard time with this B/W. It's just too serious. I really want to take this class because you learn how to develop and print, but the B/W thing is starting to give me second thoughts. It's very hard.

Although I think this shot works better in colour (and a fine shot it is too), the conversion you have made looks good to me. It takes a while to start to see how tones will render in B&W and understanding the impact of filters will help (and I'm sure it will be covered in the course). Strong compositional elements and shape play a very important role and often simpler scenes will work better. In the immortal words of Douglas Adams, "Don't Panic". :)

I am really having a hard time with it. If you have a book to recommend I would appreciate it. Something with photos as examples would be preferable since I'm not very bright.

Thanks Pete. I just ordered a copy of this. Based on the customer reviews it sounds like what I am looking for. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i don't see any issues with the tones. nice comp. and b&w conversion. how did you do the conversion?

Well nothing very technical. I used Silver EFX. I think I upped the contrast and structure to 10, changed the film emulsion to Agfa 100. This may have been one of the presets that I adjusted. So I think that was reduce the contrast to 10 and up the structure. I know I changed the film to Agfa 100. I like that one and the ISO 25 one. But that one makes the photos really dark sometimes. Sorry, I'm just really a total loser with computers.
