Touring the Chino Planes of Fame museum yesterday with the X-Pro1, there seemed to be one specific color theme that caught my eye.

Passage of Time

There's something very 50s about this color - I have a number of retro items that are orange, including my model of the Bell X1, and my old-school tape dispenser.

Technically I guess it's 'emergency orange' - so not surprising to find it on aircraft.

All shots X-Pro1 and 23mm Lens

Fabulous Chris. Love the crazing and the composition on the second. The simplicity of the first is superb. :)
Thanks Pete - as soon as I saw the 1617 I knew it would be my shot of the day - the way the old metal skin of the place reflected the sunlit ground, and that warm orange of the numbers

I've visited these three times this evening, Chris. Love that orange!
Thanks Rob - me too :)

Crazing good...really...love them. Our area code is 1-617 btw.
Thanks Glenn - small world - I looked up the year 1617, but nothing much happened that year!

Super stuff. For some reason I think of Joe 90 when I look at the first one, the colours and the typeface I guess?
Thanks Paul

Joe 90, now there's a blast from the past!

There's that orange again!

That is a wonderful orange! I love that first one!
Thanks Hamish :)

Nice colours Chris. these old planes make for some fantastic abstracts.
Thanks Julian - I used to try and 'get the whole plane in' when I shot at air shows and museums, but these days I do more of the abstract stuff, with just a few full plane shots.

all three are great shots, i'd love to see more from this place. i wish we had a local outdoor plane museum or graveyard where we could get close.
Thanks Beth - this was my first visit to the museum, although I've been to an airshow at Chino before. The main display has many aircraft that are fully restored and flying - the boneyard is out back, and I'm just guessing, but I don't think they're airworthy!

Here are some more shots from the visit:

thanks chris, those last two are great. patchwork seems like it might be airworthy, just not for long...
You wouldn't get me in that heap - looks like it's held together with caulk and string! :D

Cracking shots Chris The Kittyhawk (P40) and Mustang (p51) both look airworthy
Thanks Dave - yep, both the Mustang and Kittyhawk fly - this museum pride themselves on flying their aircraft, which is really cool. The workshops were amazing where they did the servicing and renovations.

As my first ever photo's with an SLR were all aircraft shots Chris (including the first one I had published) I really do like these a lot keep coming back to them Red Peril looks airworthy as well I even got paid real money for that shot it even made the front page of a few papers lol OK I was lucky because I had the best position to take the aircraft crashing lol

Some more super details Chris. Love that last one with the dark background.
Thanks Pete - fortunate positioning at the door of a hanger

Thanks Dave - Red Peril is definitely airworthy - they were using it in mock dogfights at the airshow I attended - very cool
