a Lens hood moment?

I've been getting a few shots like this lately - but I'm not sure what's causing it. Is this caused by overexposure or should I have used the lens hood? It looks like the shots I got back form my Fed2 with holes in the shutter, but this is metal leaf shutter.

Yeah, id try a hood... I quite like the effect though!

I would guess it is maybe Halation which I think is caused by stray light reflections within the lens. A hood would be my guess to reduce it.

You should see the crazy flare I got off the uncoated Carl Zeiss Tessar yesterday lol

Looks like it did come with an optional lens hood to reduce the flare in bright light:

erm... the thing is I have a lens hood, and it was in my bag at the time, I just didn't think!
