Critique Welcomed A scary thing.

Ivar this is scary, reminds me of the time in India , myself and another guy were walking down a quiet street when a demonstration was seen on the high street which we approached. From the demo a small guy came out and down this almost deserted street, approached us and called us filthy B*******, took a long thin knife from his pocket which has string wound round the end. He explained it contained poison, while demanding money from us. We both walked backwards keeping our front to the guy, I was weighing up how to physically deal with him if it came to that. He was short, so wondered if I could kick out and still keep my distance, lots went through my head. Thinking maybe if I did and missed that would be a worse position. In this street about a hundred meters long was one taxi and driver parked opposite a bank. No other people at all except in the banks closed doorway was a security guard as I see above, holding a large, what appeared to be a machine gun. He saw what was going on but did not do anything. We backed down the street and got by the taxi which we rushed into. I was the opposite side of the pavement, my friend was on the curb side and as he closed the door of the taxi the guy hassling us attempted to stab him through the open window. I asked the driver to pull away, he said no and it was not until I mentioned something about reporting him to the police he did pull off but took his time.
Sorry to ramble but it did bring back those memories, plus being sixteen at the time an occasion it was. We had both hoped the guard with the gun would have helped but maybe that was being naive :)

That must have been scary indeed Julian and I understand how such an image brings back such a memory. Thanks for an interesting story, glad it went all right. Shirl and I never had any threats of any kind only people trying their scams, but in vain. I on the other hand saw the humour in this scene and actually many of the so-called security guards with old guns, and they were a few, were mostly quite pathetic and hardly of any help to anyone. India kind of draws us back though. But if good fortune and health provided, maybe. There are many interesting countries to visit much closer to us though.
