Advice needed

Actually I am much the same Davie. I prefer the handling of a D3 to a D700 / D800 and the weight doesn't bother me (and I am neither 6' tall nor 3' across!). I nearly always used motor-drives on my film SLRs for the same reason (rather than speed). And the M9 is no feather!!

Cool, I am sure it will be great! It's gonna be a revelation to find that your nifty-fifty starts to behave as a 50mm lens should. :)

Aye Ahmad, he's like Irn-Bru! Made in Scotland, from girders! ;)

Absolutely, plus i'm about 6' tall and about 3' wide :)

Along with McGlashen Clach cuid fir to match ;)

would the 5d be that much lighter when a battery grip was added ?

i've bought the 1Ds lol and it should be here Saturday or Monday. If it doesn't work out weight wise or picture quality wise i can always re-sell as it has a low shutter count and look at another full frame option.

Weather sealing on 1Ds would i think be useful.
When i was looking at FF i seriously considered 1Ds yet at the time price was beyond me. I ended up with Kodak SLRc FF (Canon mount, SLRn is Nikon mount) ... slooow, clunky, high iso average, best at base iso, but it had no AA filter and its CCD gave leica M9 look. Price wise these days they go for around £250-£300 although quite rare to see them.

They do look brutish like a proper 1950's pickup although 1D had more metal and was heavier. I have from SLRc i will email a link :) same sensor as SLRn just a different body.
