We got lucky and got a lot of very good weather for this time of year. The fall rain have started up there now and it's much cooler. I would have loved to have spent more time on land. There is so much to see. Having only a few short hours and only your shoes to get around in, limits what you can see. There were a lot of "tours" offered, but most came for a pretty big price. I'm sure off season rates and rate for those not on a huge cruise ship would have been much better.
It was shocking to see how much the glaciers have receded. I was there 20 years ago and several were over 1000 feet longer.
The life cycle of the salmon is a bit sad but also it's the rebirth of millions of fry. Soon the waters will be thick with fry making their way back to the ocean. The native american cultures in that area are thousands of years old, and like the salmon are dying. They had no written language but were so rich in so many other ways. That too is sad to see go.
