Another Dark Alley

For Brian who mentioned Glasgow in another thread. This isn't one of the tenement buildings, but the infamous Paddy's Market. I actually loved the place, but I don't know how long it escaped the health and safety experts. There were many deep "tunnels" like this one (it went back much further until it was almost too dark to see). At the end of this one were loose piles of wiring (trip hazard), holes full of filthy water (health risk) and probably a horde of giant rats

Sadly they closed the market down a few years ago. I remember driving through Glasgow about 40 years ago (being driven that is, I'm not THAT old). It seemed like half the city was boarded up. There have been great improvements, but it still has poor areas like this in the east end. Glasgow was also infamous for drunks and I was talking to one after I left the concert the night before. All the concert-goers were waiting in line for taxis and they were embarrased by a tramp asking for money. I got talking to him and he told me all about his life. So sad that he hadn't seen his daughter for nearly 20 years. He knew she worked as a nurse, but he didn't want her to be ashamed of him so he stayed away
