Critique Welcomed Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags - Edinburgh

What a great series Ansell, er, I mean Rob. I like the figure in the first shot as well as the zigzagging lines within the main composition itself. The re-working of that last shot is lovely - a bit more subtlety to it. And the two shots of Arthur's seat are very nice, especially the one with the figure again. :)

Great set, Rob. I think my personal favorite is Arthur's Seat 6 with the hiker in the foreground. I like too that the water and town in the distance is visible. (Leith, I suppose that would be?) I like the clouds and the dark sky in that one also.

Like them all, but really like the first one - tone, comp, lens flare and the person - fantastic!

So where's this place compared to your gaff then Rob?

Yes, Brian, that is sunny Leith in the distance. I like that shot too. The girl really brings something different to what would have been a very nice image anyway. As with the figure in the first one, she seems to be leading your eye into the scenery.

Thanks, Chris. I used to live two minutes away from the area, but these days it takes a 20 minute bus ride across the centre of town. Looks like it would be miles away, up in the Highlands, but no, it's just a few hundred yards away from Edinburgh's historic Old Town. I used to go there a lot, but haven't been for a few years, which is crazy, really, as it is still very close.

Lens flare - at first I thought, " Oh no, what is that!?" - but now I quite like it.

Nice selection of shots, can not help but think that they would be just a tad nicer if shot with real black & white film,I think it is the way folage comes out in digital, never bben happy with it myself, but makes me want to dust off the old film gear & have a go myself after seeing those, great set of fine art photography prints.

Cheers, Andy. I'd like to do them with the new black-and-white-only Leica, but I don't have a spare 6 grand lying around...:(

But just think about all the film & dev gear you could buy with that figure of money LOL I do think that Leica have employed someone from the sports car world as have Nikon, you get a D800 for £2600 call it a D800E take some bits off it then charge more LOL Same with the Leica & I bet it will still not touch film.
We have a very good friend in the States who shoots fine art type photography, tried digital & the collectors bought them for $300, he switched to film & hand printed, noe gets $3500 per shots, it seems they are not keen on digital prints.

Am I going crazy? I followed a link to this about converting your camera to B&W-only, but can't find my way back. I'm sure it was from here. Anyway, it still costs a lot of money. I have to admit, the closeups of the full-size Leica monochrome shots are really stunning, like my eyes were drinking black liquid - OK, that didn't make much sense, but they are really beautiful shots!
