At the seaside

Had a little wander about at the seaside yesterday, with some Ilford PanF, a Canon 1N, and the 50mm f1.2 lens - used a 2K Yellow filter as well.

Mid-week at 4pm Dave - most people were still at work, or stuck in traffic!

Plus it's been unusually cold for us for a few weeks, Mid 50sF, so the locals are all wrapped up in winter coats :D

Fantastic DOF shots there chris!!
Number 2 is great. Can't believe these are film, they're amazingly sharp ! :) :)

Great Shots Chris that Nifty Fifty is really getting the results isn't it really hard to choose a fave as I like the lot :)

Note to Santa.......I have really been a very good lad, i have only swore once this week and that was when I saw the ****ing amazing DOF in these shots..:D:D:D

Thanks Dan, that's the wonder of PanF and a decent scan - super fine grain, and slow enough to allow shooting with the lens wide open! :)

Kev - I've had the 50 1.4 for a few years, but I have to say that the 1.2 is worth lusting after - quite an amazing piece of glass that imparts a quality to the images that's quite special.

Can you tell I'm a covert to the fast prime club? :D

Adrian & Pete - the sea grass caught my eye as I walked to the location to shoot the IcePlant view - it looked so nice an fluid as it blew in the breeze - couldn't resist!

Somehow I knew you'd like the Lifeguard Station Pete :)

Thanks Brian - still on an Ilford trip - I'll be keeping them in business in 2012 at this rate! :)

Went back at sunset today and shot a colour version of #2 on the 5D2 - 50mm @ F16

The ice plant is amazing at this time of year :)

Outstanding again Chris , i TOTALLY love that last one

Are these plants about to bloom or have they already Chris? Never come across them before

They're an odd plant - what you're looking at is a sort of succulent, which changes colour at different seasons.

Some species bloom in spring/summer, with a bright purple flower - not sure this species does as I don't remember seeing this area with purple colour.

It grows really well here in the semi-arid conditions, and makes great ground cover.

Feels very odd to walk on - like walking on giant bubble wrap! :D

Thanks Davie - I was kicking myself when shooting the B&W 35mm shot, that I didn't have my 5D2 with me to get the colour version!

Well worth going back for.

I think there are a few other shots lurking in this strip of land - there's a stream at the low point, with some interesting twisted trees - will have to scout it out.
