Aura on film?

Dan Cattermole

Dan Down - The Steampunk Womble
Just after a quick explanation to the weird looking aura around Grace.
None of this roll of film has been through any forms of editing. I'm not bothered by it at all, because that is the beauty of film, but just wanted to know what it is.

The camera is the Exakta and the film is Agfa vista plus 200

Many thanks :)

Come to think about it, could it just be lens flare?
It's not on any of the other shots.....

It's sort of present in this photo to the bottom left, lens flare appearance maybe?

But not present in this one

Could it be just something that simple?
I may just have a look on the negative to see if it's present on there.

As mentioned, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, just very interested how the results are caused.

There is certainly a big of flare in that one shot, but there is also a bit of haloing down the right hand side.
I read once about the downsides of stand development. Apparently the lack of agitation can cause halos ... Maybe that has something to do with it? Pete is probably the man to ask ... Pete, PETE! OI PETE! ... Seems typing someone's name in capitals doesn't help make them appear. Hopefully he will show up.

I've had some of these effects lately, but not on every shot. I thought it might be flare so I used a hood and still got them.

Any chance it is the film? (I mostly use Agfa Vista Plus 200 too).

I love the shots, Dan. Also I think the same as you about the light artifacts--I like them. It makes the images look like film images, which of course I love.

Hamish, maybe what you are referring to in stand development is "bromide drag? I went to Google to get examples of images that show bromide drag and one of the images to pop up is my very own image! Which led me to the below:

It looks to me like lens flare in Dan's shots. Both are strongly back lit, and the "aura" in the first one seems to flow from the brightest spot at the top of the frame. However, that "haloing" effect on the right hand side of the first shot looks more like an issue with the film to me.

Was it expired film, Dan?

No need to shout Hamish, I'm not deaf you know. It's my eye I have problems with! ;)

Certainly looks like flare to me (creases would probably be dark). By halo, do you mean the on the right sleeve (viewed from front)? If so, that looks a bit like flare as well to me. What can you see on the negative?

The right as you are looking at it sleeve, both sides, the sky is lighter at the edge.

This is what I was remembering, it's actually the opposite, the area around her head is darker

... The lower left in the shot I'm talking about is flare for sure mind ... The first shot and my shot are what I'm not so sure about

Yes, that's what I mean Hamish. Almost a similar effect you'd get from boosting the clarity on LR, but with a larger radius.

Here's another one
