B&W Portrait of my daughter

I occasionally catch a glimpse of Ava looking older than her 5 years. This is one of those times.

I thought I'd try Topaz BW on a portrait, too.

That's a lovely picture, I'm not sure I'd have thought of using that tone on a portrait.
Was that based on a Topaz preset or just your own settings?

Stunning Darren - great eye contact, and a lovely photo.

You can see her looking out across the years at you - I know exactly what you mean

Thanks, guys. This wasn't a preset. I just played with the various settings until I found something I liked. I was going for a bit of a 1940s Hollywood look with the shadows, though.

Done! Thanks for the suggestion, Pete! I like it better that way.

I don't have PS, Paul - only LR. I'll check it out, though. Thanks!

It's your comments about my portraits in the *** kissing thread that have spurred me on to start re-thinking a project I had in mind for a bit a few years ago ... I don't know weather I should thank you or otherwise... It's driving me nuts and I haven't even started yet!
I want to see how well it is possible to portray personality in a photo with as little clues as possible ...
I'm going to take photos of some of my mates, people that I know very well and hopefully portray them in a way that puts accross some aspect of them as a person then see if people can identify that in my photo...

It also crosse my mind to combine people's response to my photos with a basic AQ (autism-spectrum quotient) test ... In theory people scoring lower on the test would be more able to identify personality traits in my photos ... And vise-versa, higher, las able!

I score really quite low on the AQ test and I wonder if that is why I am able to capture personality in photos??
But, my misses scores quite high and she is still able to identify the traits quite easily ...
It's just a bit of fun really ...

Here's one if you are interested AQ Autism Test | Health | channel4.com/bodies

Interesting idea... Or a bit silly do you think?
You reckon people would be up for it? :)

I like the idea a lot, actually. I spend a lot of time trying to photograph the mood and personality of buildings, and how that is projected on the people who occupy and use them. So I can totally relate. I took the AQ test, and got a 15, which is rather low. My missus didn't take it but I know she'd score a lot higher, too :-)

In any case, I think you may be on to something!

Sounds like it could be fun.
The test says that a control group averaged a score of 16, so 15 looks pretty normal, (I scored 18).

perhaps combine this with questions about style/preferences in photography..
(eg digital/film, places/people abstract/representational, etc)

I score 10, Hannah 26
It would be interesting to combine other factors yes!
More thought required ... And I actually need to take the photos first! :/
