Basingstoke Calling!

Hello all, I've just joined this forum on Hamish's advice as I have an interest in photography and need to improve my skills - a lot! My photography splits between travel (I'm soon off to Istanbul which is a very photogenic city) and hi-fi, where system components and close-ups are the norm.

I have a Panasonic Lumix GF-1 with the 14-45mm zoom lens and electronic viewfinder, which is far and away the nicest camera I've ever owned. I'm still very much learning my way around its complex menus.

All help and advice gratefully received!

Hi Martin ...
good to see you here!
Your well aware of my opinions on the gf-1 im sure ... and its sounds like you have formed the exact same opinion i have ... great camera ... complicated menus!
Post some piccys! photos of sexy tonearms are more than welcome ;)
Still got this 20mm lens hanging round ... and i still think its got your name written alll over it ;)

in fact, if you did want it ... its yours for £150 + post ... 1 day special price ... get it whilst stocks last ;)

Aargh - what are you doing to me! I've bought stacks of music this month and am now in negotiation with a Hong Kong dealer for a very specially priced item of hi-fi where he's offered an amazing part-ex. I just can't go for the lens at the moment :(

Welcome to the forum Martin. When I'm in the UK I'm about 6 miles from you! Istanbul should be great, especially for street photography. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself and the forum!

Thanks, Pete. I've been to Istanbul three times before but never with a really good camera. I can't wait to try it on the spice bazaar and the Sultanahmet mosque.

Welcome Martin, nice to see you here :)

Hey Mark, fancy seeing you here! I guess you must do a lot of macro work, this is an area I want to improve on.

All in good time, Hamish. I'll select a photo that I think could be improved and ask some advice. Too tired tonight, was in the office at 6:05 this morning.

Good call, shall look forward to it ... I thought the one of the shelter cart showed improvement over previous shots btw ...

Welcome Martin! :)

Funny how hifi and photography go together - must be something in both that appeals to the same type of people...

(cough)Expensive toys(cough)

Heh, yeah ... Nail and head there matey I reckon!
Gadgets ... But gadgets for the creative or those with an apriciation for art...

True dat

Welcome Martin, there are plenty of hifi freaks on here as well as photographers! Always hard to know where to prioritise the scarce supply of money...

Thanks Tim. Not difficult for me, I'm afraid. Music will always come first, but then for me photography kit is not nearly as expensive as hi-fi. Thank goodness I already have what I want :)
