Camera advice for A level student

Thanks Darren, as you will see we went for the Panasonic as above.

A follow up on electronic viewfinders:

I wear varifocal lens glasses. Through an ordinary SLR viewfinder, it is no problem and the natural position of the camera against my glasses matches the mainly distance focusing required.

Through the electronic viewfinder of the Panasonic I am effectively looking at a tiny screen extremely close to my eye. Therefore, whatever the distance of the original subject, I need to focus up really close. This corresponds to a thin strip at the bottom of my glasses lens - designed for reading in your lap or on a desk - so the only way I can focus on the VF is with a very artificial head position, tilted to the skies. Not good.

Has this problem re varifocal glasses been noted before?

Dunno Hamish. Not had a chance to read the manual to see what a diopter adjustment is. Will report back.

The point is that I have to look through my glasses in the area designed for close work, and not the area designed for distance viewing as with a normal viewfinder.

SWMBO has varyfocals, and I have set-up the diopter on her DSLR for her, so that it's sharp for her wearing those glasses.

Before the adjustment, she was claiming that the camera focus wasn't working!

Now it's set-up, it works a treat for her.

But of course, if I look through the viewfinder, I have to trust that the AF is still actually working! LOL
