I was out on the Woodpecker rally yesterday and this little critter decided he wanted to sit next to me on the tree stump so I thought id try and get a pic of him

Before that I had to fend off what was the biggest wasp I have ever seen, it was nigh on 2 inches long, including a massive stinger! And before you all call me a big wuss, im allergic to insect bites which cause the bitten/stung body part to swell up massively

You would have been fine with that Ally, they don't sting. It looks like one of the "wood wasp" species, they use the long stinger looking thing to lay eggs in rotten wood.

Glen - you could tell me that, show me a book on it, have a Nat Geo show on it, and I'd still run a mile if one buzzed me!

Ally - love the blue colours in the beetle - for some reason the pose make's him look like a happy chappy
