Blip

My daughter, Rhona, is on work experience from school. Last week she was with a graphic design company, designing a logo for an oil company. This week she is getting behind the scenes experience at the Stills Photography Gallery in central Edinburgh. One of the tasks she has been given is to contribute a fresh photo to Blip every day. I'd never heard of Blip before, but it's somewhere to post one photo per day, taken that day.

Here's her first two. I really like the lock and chain one!

The gallery one was taken yesterday. The padlock one was taken today when she realised she hadn't done it, and there was twenty minutes to go before her work finished. So she grabbed a Canon 30D and ran outside, took one shot of the nearest interesting thing, ran back in and uploaded it. Good professional work, I'd say!

Excellent start Rhona! :)

Love Blip - it get's you thinking about getting off your arse and doing something every day! :D

Nice, Chris. Do you get much traffic, comments, etc?

well, I've got a few folks who subscribe to the posts, so they comment - average 60+ views per post over time.

It's an interesting place - they pick out their fave shots each week and post a 'best of' list - fun if you get onto that, as it drives a lot of traffic

I use the free service and haven't bothered to upgrade to the paid service as the free seems more than adequate

Well impressed, the chain in particular is a great photo. This work experience can be both enjoyable and very educational, given a good placement. Often somewhere that a youngster would not ordinarily be able to get this real life experience.

Cheers, Julian. She missed today's upload to Blip, as she was in the darkroom developing b&w film she shot today. Looking forward to the results. They just left her in the darkroom, and she did it all on her own. Good training for being my assistant, LOL. As if!

This is a great start for Rhona! And, isn't she lucky to have parents like you.
I wish her all the best in her good and resourceful start. :)

She can upload after the date has passed Rob - if it's a digital file from a DSLR then as long as the EXIF os for a date, it will place it there on Blip.

If it's a scan of a neg, you can manually set the date when you import to Blip

Thanks for the info, Chris. Her fans have been left waiting, as the images she took yesterday have been drying overnight...Today is her last day, and I think they have other things planned for her. She has really enjoyed her two weeks work experience.

Brilliant - seem to remember I did my work experience in a turbine factory, which was a lot less inspiring! :D
