Bottom of the garden...

I'm a little hesitant to start posting my photo's, as most of the ones I've taken so far have been full of basic errors! I've only had the camera a few weeks & I'm learning lots & lots & most of it from the mistakes I'm making, I suspect this is a good thing, but does make me a bit tentative about posting my pictures...

Here couple anyway...

Those are delightful, Alfie. I love the color in the ducks and also the pose of the deer nearest to the camera in the first deer shot. Very delightful indeed!

I can't say there's a huge amount wrong with any of these....

The first one of the duck, I quite like as you don't often see pictures of them with their bills open like that...

The one of the ducks on the log would have ben a little better if you had been able to position it more centrally with as much space above their heads as below the reflecton. (This might not have been possible at the time, of course, and is IMHO anyway).

There's certainly nothing to be hesitant about, and if we can't see the pictures we can't help with suggestions.:)

Shouldn't be too worried about posting or about making mistakes or errors, something we all do and occasionally Sarah will join in, Pete will explain Our 'Sarah' in time I'm sure :D:D
I like the third with the ducks on the log, good capture that and the reflections too....

Looks like you got a pretty large garden too, should we be addressing you as m'lord :D

Oh welcome Alfie BTW, been meaning to do that on the M&G thread but am away from home ATM

defo a great set, these are great shots, you should be proud of these.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. These are obviously the better shots & the few I'm happy with, there's quite a few others that weren't so successful.

It was quite a bright day & I was tending to overexpose & then over compensate & underexpose! Also I'd not heard of the 1/focal length rule at this point & was shooting with a 50-200mm lens (300mm effective on my crop sensor) at low shutter speeds. My biggest problem was getting used to using a view finder after getting used to live view on compacts.

Kev, no need to call me M'lord. I live very close to Wollaton Hall Wollaton Hall & Deer Park : Nottingham City Council & it's a family joke about going for a walk down the garden.

Very nice - loving the garden you have, must be a hell of a lawn to cut! ;)

First two duck shots are great

As far as shutter speeds go - with long lenses I play safe with 1 / (2 x Focal length) as the shutter speed - pretty much guarantees no camera shake - just dial up the ISO to get you whet you need.

So a 300mm lens would be 1/600 sec minimum shutter speed for example

Very nice set . love the two ducks on the log well done

Yeah ... dont be scared of posting ... we are a gentle bunch!
Nothing wrong with these at all I dont think ...
The ducks on the log stands out for me but like Adrian I would have framed slightly lower!
Ive been taking photos for a long time though and charging people for it ... I still automatically frame the subject centrally sometimes without thinking ...
here is an example ... i just made it look like i meant to do it ... I didnt, i was in a rush!
(dont tell anyone)
