Californication ( Cheap as Chips)

Ben - I am very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Canonet - and the way it handles.

They produced some lovely cameras back in the day, before they all went to plastic!

I'd love a black GIII QL17 - they look stunning, but so does the price!

Now, if Canon would just wake-up and produce a digital version! :D

Chris, you've convinced me with all this B&W business! I love your shots - I think the palm trees are my favorite.

I'm a convert as well - loving B&W at the moment.

Just sent you my Topaz B&W workflow to play with :)

My aunt Lynn lives in Huntington Beach in Coasta Mesa
Not far from where the life guards are is a sheer cliff with a big rock on top and a sighn that says NO DIVING!
My uncle an X life guard there of more than 20 years took me diving at sun set from hat cliff after the life guards left.

I don't like heights, so it was a real challenge for me being well over 60 ft. above a big Ocean and diving in head first!

I love Date palms was that taken on Harbor Blvd. at the OC Fair grounds?

Chris, these are wonderful!
Very impressive stuff!

Did i read somewhere else that you bought another canonet?

Thanks Hamish - yep, I got the last of the Canonets, the GIII QL17 - not in the black finish I really wanted, but in the standard silver/black.

Gave it a work out in Arizona over the weekend - will get the film in to the lab Monday for Dev/Scan

Fingers crossed! :)

Jeff - the palms were at the Palm Cafe mall just off Jamboree - they are all over the parking lot!

Great diving story - no way I'd have had the b@lls to do that!

Yep - will do :)

Just for now, here are the two models side by side - you can see the family resemblance! :D

I put a non Canon hood on the QL17 so I could use it out in sunny AZ - I have the proper hood on the way from EBAY, the one that doesn't obstruct the viewfinder!

I'll do a write up with sample pics from AZ, when I get them back :)
