Canon 1100d using speedlight 277t

Hi folks, it has been a while; too many irons in the fire lately. Briefly I have inherited a rather nice Canon 1100d and wondered if it is OK to use the Canon speedlight 277T flash gun that belongs with my T90 film camera? Would it damage the camera ?
I realise it would be manual only, but it would be useful if I could use it for the time being.
Many thanks.

Hi Stan. Ive got a nice canon speedlite and quite powerful. I use it on all my cameras and to get around the problem you, I and many think may happen if they are not compatible, I got a cheap radio trigger. A Phottix as here http://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/fl.../phottix-ares-wireless-flash-trigger-set.html . I have to admit it was three or four years ago and the price was half it is now. I am sure there maybe a version around that is cheaper maybe. Of course it is only manual but I felt it was the safest way to go.
As to whether yours will harm the camera you have or not I cannot say but if I was to use it I'd tape over every connector except the central one, which is what the Phottix Trigger does.

Thanks
