Canon 2X Extender III

Anyone have any experience with this? I thought it would be a good solution to get some additional range out of my 70-200, but have heard mixed reviews on the previous generations...

I have the MKII - works great on primes, not tried it on zooms though.

I have the 1.4x II ( older model) on a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS and it is excellent.

To me the 2x II ( old model) was softer than the 1.4X II , but now the III are out I think you should try one.

The extra reach of 2x is useful.

If you do buy one let us all know as that's my next purchase :)

A bit spendy but a lot less than a 400mm lens, and on my 1.6 crop canon 60D that is 640mm :)

Contrast loss was an issue on the 600, but could be corrected in PP.

My understanding from Canon was that the extenders were designed for the prime telephotos specifically, hence the good IQ.

Shows how good those primes are, I want one, one day :)
