Found the work of Michael Paul Smith on Flickr, and just had to share with the folks here. I know they'll appeal to many - but I wanted to get these in front of @Beth Anthony , @Rense Haveman and @Kev Pugh especially.
Like photographs pulled from an old shoebox in a dusty attic, Michael Paul Smith’s photostream is
filled with images echoing warm memories of mid-twentieth century America. Many who view his photos of vintage cars and familiar buildings are often hit with nostalgia.
The images are wonderful - the vintage cars, the locations - great photography.
But each image hides a secret...
They're all models!
Beautifully built scale replicas, placed on a diorama setting, then shot against real backdrops with real lighting.
As you can see, the effect is just stunning.
There's a very nice video and article on Michael here: http://blog.flickr.net/en/2013/10/04/crafting-scenes-of-iconic-americana/ which explains the whole set-up, and how he gets the amazing images he gets.
Simply wonderful work, at so many levels.
And he clearly loves vintage sic-fi as well
