Cranes Over San Pedro

Inspired by Pete's "Cranes Over Potsdam" I decided to post this image showing several cranes at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro California.

There is a majesty about the cranes. The bigger the better for me. There are many of them in San Pedro and on Terminal Island and I hope to shoot more. I think this image gives a good idea of the business the Port of Los Angeles does.

Canon 7d and Tamron 18-270.

Wonderful Brian. I like the symmetry with the cranes in the top half all pointing the same way and almost monochrome and the colour confined to the lower half and the containers. The tones and the angles give the picture a kind of waiting mood - industry is about to happen.

Dave and Pete,...thank you. These cranes spring into action when a ship pulls up. You can't see it for all the containers in the way but there is a waterway on the other side. Each of the cranes in the background is adjacent to a waterway also. In the area where I took this picture there are dozens of other giant cranes. There are big white ones I haven't shot yet, and big red ones that, at night when they are lit, are a stunning photo yet to be shot. Only problem is there is a lot of security, so you can't just walk up close and start snapping. Anyway, thanks again.

Very nice - love the perfect symmetry!

Is that a fog bank in the distance, or mountains?

didn't spot it at first, as the eye is drawn to the cranes - but then the lovely natural waveform comes through
